Heading Back to D.C.
As you are aware we are heading back to DC, one more time. We have moved forward with our fight to ban asbestos, in the US and this time we will be joined with many others, to bring our voice with some of the outstanding orginazations, such as ADAO, Pac Lab, and of course MARF. We will join in to show our support to MARF at this years symposium and meet many new friends and rejoice with so many of our old friends. We look forward to seeing you there.
Senate Resolution 462
Designating the first week in April 2008 as "National Asbestos Awareness Week)
4th Annual Asbestos Awareness Conference
The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization hosted the highly successful 4th Annual Asbestos Awareness Day conference at Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan, March 28-30, 2008.
The theme was advancements to prevent, detect, and treat asbestos-related diseases and trauma which was well represented by the array of presentations focusing on the most promising developments in science, practical advice patients can use to enhance treatment management, to developments in the Ban Asbestos Act.
One of PHLBI's Directors, Terry Lynch, who is the Int'l Vice President, Political and Legislative Director, and Health Hazard Administrator for the International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, discussed his union's moral obligation to keep their workers safe and extended the obligation to all citizens. The union leads the way through their efforts to no longer use asbestos in any of their trade work and shows symbolical direction in their name change from the Asbestos Workers Union to the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers. Mr. Lynch's speech dovetailed into a moving and yet too familiar story of families devestated by asbestos and lamented that others could continue to experience such devastation if a complete ban is not established. Get Mr. Lynch's full presentation as well as summaries from more presentations provided by Jessica Like!
For full conference materials visit the ADAO's website which will continue to provide more information in the upcoming weeks.

IMPORTANT BAN ASBESTOS UPDATE FROM THE HILL, from my eyes, ears and heart. ~ TC McNamara
As you are aware since September 2005 my family and I have been involved with senate bills to ban the use of all asbestos, as you all know by now we, John and I came from Hawaii last October 2007 to stand with MARF and unite our voices to have Senate Bill 752 pass, the symposium was outstanding and we rejoiced with everyone as we heard in the senate offices that the bill passed unanimously! Many of you may not be aware of the fact that my boy barely made it back to LA and died 4 hours after we left DC. It would have almost been some what acceptable, because John's voice was heard and the bill was now passed, WRONG!!! John died in the wee hours of Oct. 8, 2007 the morning after my birthday and 29 days shy of our 31st wedding anniversary. My kids didn't get a chance to say good - bye. On Oct. 23rd, 2007 I was informed that the bill that we fought for and supported and "thought" passed actually DIDN'T!!
After the shock, extreme disappointment and the horror that accompanied my family that John did not get to see his dream completed, we decided to fight on. As many of you are aware I was in DC for House Subcommittee on Environment and Hazardous Materials hearing titled “Legislative Hearing on S. 742 and Draft Legislation to Ban Asbestos in Products House” on February 28th and present for several meetings in the days prior, and personally have the knowledge that the House did focus on the ban provisions BUT there is plans in place for the research funding and that the research funding is still moving forward. There is absolutely no talk of the house dropping the requirement for federal funding for asbestos disease research, I found that in all the meetings that I attended the opposite was what I was hearing everybody including but not limited to was that even EHW Committee Ranking Member Shadegg’s staffer even stated the need for research funding as soon as possible.
As you all are aware, I agree that the understated 3000 people, victims already diagnosed with Mesothelioma, this year alone and the thousands more that will be diagnosed in the many years to come urgently need research funds to develop better treatments.
I agree that we need your support EVERY VOICE COUNTS, AND EVERY VOICE
IS NEEDED! Sign the petition to ban asbestos at http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/totally-ban-asbestos.html and listen to the hearing in detail, by clicking this link http://energycommerce.house.gov/cmte_mtgs/110-ehm-hrg.022808.Asbestos.shtml , hear for yourself, what was said about the research funding and see that we need to complete what the senate bill abandoned, we will not sell out, for 10 million in research funding over the next 5 years, a complete ban and 50 million dollars for research and more is what we are calling for. Join my family and raise the awareness we need and fight for what our victims so desperately deserve!
Thank you for you help and support.
Tell Congress: Totally Ban Asbestos in Industrial Materials, Consumer Products and Toys
Americans have zero tolerance for asbestos!
Scientists agree: Asbestos causes cancer and other deadly diseases, thousands of Americans die each year from asbestos-related diseases, and there’s no known safe level of exposure to any form of asbestos. Yet asbestos is still legal in the US and still found in many common consumer products – even children’s toys.
The US EPA attempted to ban asbestos-containing products in 1989, but that ban was overturned on legal technicalities in court two years later.
In 2007, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization commissioned independent, certified laboratory testing that found asbestos in common household products, such as spackle, window glazing, and duct tape, and even in best-selling children’s toys, such as the popular "CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit." Research by others had already found asbestos in some children's play clays.
Congress is expected to hold hearings soon on whether to implement a total ban on asbestos-containing products. Right now, industry lobbyists are pressuring Congress to institutionalize the allowance of up to 1 percent of asbestos in our industrial materials, consumer products, toys, and other products on American store shelves. We say, "No!" It’s time for a total ban on asbestos in American products.
As organizations and individuals representing and advocating for those most impacted by the toxic effects of asbestos, we urge Congress to institute an effective and verifiable ban on asbestos.
Herbs
When John and I first started looking into alternative treatments, we got all sorts of input, a lot of negative and a lot of support. But we choose a path that worked for us, to enable John to have the quality of life that afford us a almost "normal" life style. Without pain medication or Western medication for most of his time with us. We found from other meso patients, that "EISSAC Tea" would help with internal swelling, and relieve pain, and boost John's overall ability to perform his daily routine. It also made his external scarring minimal, John keloid scared and when drinking "Eissac Tea" we found that his scarring was reduced considerable.
John attempted to "use" Interferron Alpha it had a negative effect, so we went with the natural "Lacotoferron" which boosted his immune sytem at a much slower pace but kept him around our small children without catching "kid" germs.
Monthly, John drank a "Lung Cleanser". It was 7 days and by the third day he had clearing in his lungs which allowed him the freedom from inhalers and steroids.
We ended up on 60 daily supplements which each time we will give you another of his cocktails, hopefully we can add information from other patients.
